Computron Display Systems was founded 1981. Working as a startup engineering team with three principals,
a technology patent was perfected, demonstrating a unique method for powering computer systems of that
day. The patented device was revealed to Wall Street and subsequently raised funding to begin full-scale
sales and manufacturing. Today the company holds four additional patents and stands as the oldest surviving
designer and component level manufacturer of high-resolution video monitors in the U.S. Computron occupies
a free standing 23,000 square foot, fully air conditioned facility located in Mount Prospect, a northwest
suburb of Chicago. The Company is ISO 9001 registered through TUV Rheinland of North America.
From modest beginnings as a video monitor manufacturer, its core business started as a contractor to
medical, industrial, and military OEM clients. However the company's predominant success in the medical
market segment, now spanning two decades, has positioned Computron's monitors behind medical equipment found
in almost every hospital worldwide. Oxygen ventilators, renal dialysis, cerebral oximeters, thoracic
probes, ophthalmic and radiological instruments are amongst the OEM equipment utilizing Computron monitors.
In 1995 Computron's original founder and President, Russell E. Froelich, together with new shareholders,
divested the Computron monitor division from what had grown to be a much larger enterprise formerly known
as Xcel Corporation. Computron's long history of operating profitability permitted this transaction to be
accomplished through conventional institutional banking. American National Bank of Chicago provided the
initial funding. Merrill Lynch now serves as the Company's major financial partner, which supports
Computron's growth initiatives.
Over recent years, management has sought to diversify Computron's business through acquisitions. In 1999
the Company acquired KG Rear Vision, a fifteen year old business engaged in the transportation and trucking
industry distributing backup cameras installed for collision avoidance. Today this business is an
integrated operating unit of the corporation manufacturing newer products that have advanced technology
for improved day and night visibility and ruggedized service. This has expanded KG's camera business to
penetration of "off road" construction equipment and snowplow markets requiring forward and rearward
looking driver visibility under hazardous conditions of dust and snow. The company has also designed a
school bus multi-camera system providing full perimeter visibility to the bus driver.
A second acquisition occurred in 2000 with the purchase of Nortech Imaging Technologies. Nortech Imaging
Technologies was a manufacturer of ultra high-resolution grayscale monitors used for document imaging,
radar, industrial and medical applications. Today the business is an integrated operating unit of
Computron. Its products are advanced to serve the medical PACS and radiology market segments.
A third acquisition took place in March 2002 marking the company's affiliation with a marketing and sales
organization in the West Coast. Today, this group has expanded into sales of C-Arms, surgical and pain management
tables and monitors which are all manufactured at Computron's Mount Prospect, Illinois facility. This
acquisition benchmarks the company's objective to become a full medical systems manufacturer.
As a growing enterprise, Computron continues to provide technical capabilities for Medical, Defense and
Municipal markets.
